Russian and Chinese specialists to unite efforts to build floating nuclear stations

29.07.2014
ZAO Rusatom Overseas (a daughter enterprise of the Russian state corporation Rosatom) and the Chinese company CNNC New Energy signed a memorandum of intent to cooperate in the project for building floating nuclear power plants in Moscow on 29 July, BelTA learned from the strategic communications division of Rusatom Overseas. The creation of a Russian-Chinese working group will be the next step in implementing the project.

Specialists said that floating power plants have a considerable potential. A floating nuclear power plant can be self-propelled or towed. A power plant like that can be connected to the shore infrastructure or moored next to an energy consumption center.

Representatives of the Russian company noted that floating nuclear power plants can provide energy reliably not only to hard-to-reach populated localities, for instance, in the Far North and the Far East, but also to major industrial installations virtually in any part of the world ocean, for instance, to oil rigs.
